After years of working from home, I never thought I’d say this, but I think I’m finally enjoying working in an office again.
Working from home gave me so much. I had more time with my loved ones, no daily traffic, and the comfort of working in my own space. For years, it worked for me, and I will always appreciate the freedom and opportunities that came with it.
But somewhere along the way, I realised how difficult it became to separate my personal life from work.
When your workspace is also your home, it sometimes feels like you’re always available. You check one email after work. You open your laptop for a “quick task.” Then suddenly, work slowly becomes part of your personal time without you even noticing.
Maybe that is why being back in an office, or even having a hybrid setup, feels different for me now.
There is something about getting ready, going to work, sitting at your desk, and knowing that this is your professional time. Then, when the workday is done, you leave. You go home and try to be fully present with your family.
Of course, office work has its own challenges. Traffic is still traffic. Getting up early is not always fun. And yes, there are days when I miss working in comfortable clothes at home.
But at this stage of my life, having a clear boundary between work and home feels more secure. I also feel like being around people, learning in person, and experiencing a different working environment gives me more room to grow professionally and personally.
Maybe I’m not completely leaving the work-from-home era behind.
I just think I’m finally in a season where showing up at the office again feels right.
